Buongiorno!

Thank you very much for the my new CAINE Distribuition and thank you for the opportunity to write here. I'm new here, I'm here because I'm interested in the issue - I'm not a professional, and I hope you all are doing fine.

My question is, since I'm completely at the start of my learning process regarding forensics and regarding CAINE, and since I want to learn hands on a CAINE System, and not just read the manuals first and afterwards work with the system, which would be in my case the best option to implement things here:

My ressources are:
- My experience with Debian / Ubuntu which is ok, but I'm not a professional
- The CAINE Live-DVD
- A laptop with 2 Linux partitions and one Windows partition
- I'm thinking of buying an external drive for forensics, a place where to store an image using dd for example (please correct me if I understood s. th. wrong)

What I want:
- Learn Computer Forensics using CAINE (... that means I'm going to read the files recommended at this site which includes the manuals of the tools)
- As I do not have a particularly interesting system to investigate, I would start booting the CAINE-Live CD, and on a parallel basis read manuals and analize my own Windows using the new external drive that I would buy.

Are my steps so far ok, or did I understand s.th. complety wrong?

I would very much appreciate a short answer -- I understand that my question is not that brilliant, that you need to elaborate so much on it.

In advance, thank you all very much for your kind help!

Kind regards
Underdog

Hi thank you for your consideration,
your steps are rights, but remember that Caine is only a container of forensic tools...you have to learn the to use each tool one by one.
For example: the sleuthlkit, the autopsy, the Guymager, etc.

You can start reading this http://linuxleo.com/Docs/linuxintro-LEFE-3.78.pdf
bye
