WinTaylor and ZeroView Empty WinTaylor and ZeroView

Post  pkuhl Sun May 03, 2009 6:04 pm

I was wondering if ZeroView (free from Technology Pathways) would be added to CAINE and WinTaylor. When I am looking at a running Windows box, one of the first things I look at is to see if whole disk encryption might be an issue. The ZeroView tool allows me to do this quick and easily by only looking at Sector 0 and Sector 63 (or Sector 2048 on Vista).

Or is there a tool already on WinTaylor/CAINE that will perform this function?

Thanks
PKuhl

Had a slow day today, so I integrated the ZeroView application within WinTaylor.

In order to use the ZeroView application, the company requires the freeware license documents be included. I placed these documents in the ..\AutoPlay\Docs folder. Is this a correct location to place the documents required by the software company, or is there a better location?

Good job... The root directory, of \Programs directory are good enough, I think.

WinTaylor and ZeroView Empty FTK Imager

Post  slo.sleuth Wed May 06, 2009 6:14 pm

I am certainly not trying to be contrary to my friend PKuhl, but FTK imager can accomplish the same task as ZeroView, and though it may not be quite as simple, it is not far off and it is more flexible. I mention this only in the event that there is not enough room on the new disk for both applications...

I do agree with my Linux friend, FTK Imager will complete the task while providing additional features. However, I enjoy quick, simple tools that perform one or two functions, and perform them well. Don't get me wrong, if I am performing a live acquistion with Caine or Helix, I will use FTK Imager. However, if I just want to view Sector 0 or Sector 63 quickly, I like to use ZeroView. Kudos to the developer for not completely filling up the CD, allowing room for the individual experimentaion and expansion.
