Try to boot by your usb pendrive on antoher computer (no EEEPC) and let me know if you have the same problem or not.

If you have the same problem, maybe it's a problem on your usb stick, if not, maybe it's a kind of incompatibility with the EEEPC Solid State Hard disk...
thanks

is it possible that in sda2 is there an ext4 partition ?
and in this case it's not correct that system doesn't start. Caine have to start ignoring the file system!

Hi

I have now tested the CAINE LiveUSB Stick with a Sony Vaio Laptop.
The LiveUSB stick booted without problems, therefore, the problem
does not seem to be at the stick (or CAINE).

Since I don't want to expand the entire Harddisk, this would have been a good option.
Is there another good (and easy) way to imaging a Eee Pc?

You could boot with Caine cd from a external cd/dvd reader.
We know that other user had used Caine from selft created usb distro (using the same tutorial) to image an Asus with solid disk.
This problem is interesting.
try using external cd/dvd reader

may be the best way is booting from external cd/dvd reader using Caine or other forensic live-cd.
If system start should say that problem is correlated to system on usb device.
For now I thing only Grml have support for ext4.
But with Caine you can download on a usb key or sd card this script http://www.denisfrati.it/other/ext4_tester.tar.gz.
After boot with caine from cd/dvd reader you can run it in this way:
$ sudo ./ext4_tester.sh /dev/to_check.

This fact a part, if you can boot from external cd/dvd reader, connected via usb, your problem in solved, you have enough to image your eeepc drive.

It is definitely impossible, to boot this EeePc 4G Surf with CAlNES LiveUSB or with a external CD/DVD Drive.
The only solution is the last free Version from Helix, with this we could booting the Eee.
Unfortunately Helix takes a USB Driver, with wich it is a problem to read on USB Drives (same problems with other Hardware like some Fujitsu-Siemens Pc's and other).
So, we can't imaging the Eee with Helix and no booting with CAINE

may be I don't understand right, but this sentence
"Unfortunately Helix takes a USB Driver, with wich it is a problem to read on USB Drives (same problems with other Hardware like some Fujitsu-Siemens Pc's and other)."
Does it mean that Helix can't read the drive, or that Helix can see the usb drive you want use as destination?
In the second case you can image the drive other the net.

I did this on a Eee 901 using the Caine 1.5 iso installed onto a USB memory stick with unetbootin.

The Eee PC boots into the Caine Graphical environment OK. However, when I try to image the SSD devices in the Eee using GuyMager I can't save the image to the external USB hard drive I connected due to it being mounted read-only.

How can I remove the read-only from this hard disk to enable the image to be saved?

simply mounting it in RW :-)
sudo mount -o rw /dev/sdbX /media/sdbX

where X is the number of the partition of your external hd.

Thanks for that and your very quick reply. Eee imaging fine to the external HD now.

I had opened the file browser from one of the device icons on the desktop and mounted the external HD from there - with lowest possible permissions from Linux. Forgot about that!
